Refleksija, Metropolis Music [Serbia] MCD098 (2019)
Dušica Mladenović performs sonatas for solo violin by Ian Wilson and Dejan Despić; Anime Violin Trio performs “1927” by Ian Wilson and “Sonatina B-A-C-H” by Dejan Despić.
[Wilson’s solo sonata] is played by Mladenović who again seems to convey the intricacies and above all the emotion of the three parts. Dušica plays this sometimes frantic, always spirited music with considerable skill.

About the CD:
“Refleksija” (reflection) is a musical dialogue between Serbian composer Dejan Despić and Irish composer Ian Wilson. Reflection, as a glint of light, thought or sound; as a mode of thinking, transferring attention from the object of observation to the subject and deliberating the relationship between them, representing both the merging and diverging points of the two main actors of this discussion. The topic of the conversation is the same: the cyclical forms which the composers used independently of one another, and the same instrumental combinations for which they were written.
Echoes and Shadows, Farpoint Recordings [Ireland] fp080 (2021)
Dušica Mladenović performs music by Ian Wilson: “I Quattro Elementi” for solo violin and, with Dušan Panajotović, “Eigenschatten” for two violins.
…delivered with febrile intensity by Mladenović in a simply remarkable and occasionally stratospheric performance.

About the CD:
The violin has been central to Ian Wilson’s compositional output over the past 30 years – he has written four concertos, a violin quartet, a violin trio, a violin duo and many solos and duos with piano, as well as two substantial music theatre works for violinist. Echoes and Shadows features three works for violins from the past two decades: a quartet, a duo and a new solo. The quartet was recorded in The MAC, Belfast, and the duo and solo in the cellar of a Serbian winery which has a fantastic acoustic. Almost all of the performers on the album are long-time collaborators with the composer.
